1.     During his great struggle with the great marlin what does Santiago wish repeatedly?
Ans: Santiago wishes again and again for the presence of the boy during his struggle with the great      marlin.He thought that it would have been a big help if the boy was there with him.                              

2.     How does Santiago finally kill the marlin?
Ans: Santiago tactfully brought the fish closer to the skiff, lifted his harpoon and drove it with all his strength into the side of the fish.The sharp pain made the fish leap out of the water and it fell into the water with a crash. 

3.     What happens after Santiago killed the marlin?
Ans. Attracted by the smell of marlin's blood a mako shark started following the skiff.Though Santiago killed the shark ,it had torn away a considerable part of the marlin flesh and he lost his harpoon and rope.  

4.     Why does Santiago think repeatedly about Di Maggio?
Ans: Di Maggio was Santiago's baseball hero. Santiago was his great fan. 

5.     What happens upon Santiago's return from the sea to his village?
Ans: More and more sharks came attracted by the marlin's flesh and Santiago killed them all but a large portion of marlin's flesh had been taken away. After all desperately he realized that there was no more flesh left on the marlin. 

5.     How does Manolin console Santiago at the end?
Ans: Manolin consoled Santiago by promising him that they would fish together next time and that he would not care what his parents said about the old man.

SHORT ANSWER QUESTIONS 

1.    From where did Lord Strawberry get hold of the phoenix?
Ans : Lord Strawberry found and got hold of the phoenix from Arabia. It was remarkably fine phoenix with a charming character- affable to the other birds in the aviary and much attached to Lord Strawberry.

2.     Why was the aviary sold?
Ans : It costs a great deal of money to keep up an aviary. When Lord Strawberry died he died penniless. So the aviary came on the market.

3.     Who was Mr. Tancred Poldero? What was his attitude towards the phoenix?
Ans : Mr. Tancred Poldero was the owner and the proprietor of Poldero's Wizard Wonderland. He considered the phoenix a bargain and he aimed to raise a huge profit from it.

4.     What was the reason for the phoenix losing its popularity among the visitors?
Ans : The business slackened since it hadn't got Udge as Mr. Poldero said. Even at popular prices the phoenix was not really popular. It was too quiet,  too classical.

5.     How did Mr. Poldero treat the phoenix in order to speed up its ageing process?
Ans : In order to speed up the phoenix's ageing process, Mr. Poldero put quarrelsome birds and alley cats in its cage. He also moved the phoenix into a small cage that had a sprinkler in ceiling.

6.     Why did Mr. Poldero sign the contract for the film rights?
Ans : By all means, Mr. Poldero tried to raise a huge profit out of the phoenix. He had risen the admission ticket to five shillings as well.
